Brooklyn’s cityscape is rapidly changing.
The 32-story Williamsburgh Savings Bank Tower, built in 1929, was Brooklyn’s tallest building for 80 years, but now it’s not even in the top 10. Many new developments are transforming both Downtown Brooklyn and Brooklyn Heights, and some of them will be among the tallest in the borough.
One of them, the 620-foot tower known as 11 Hoyt, is now the third tallest building in Brooklyn. There are 481 condos stacked inside its 57 stories, along with 55,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor amenities, including a dog park. For human residents, a 27,000-square-feet elevated private park, built atop a two-story base, surrounds the building.
Design heavyweights were involved in architecture, interiors, and landscaping. This is Chicago-headquartered firm Studio Gang’s first residential development in New York, while London- and New York-based Michaelis Boyd, known for designing the swanky members-only Soho House clubs around the world, are responsible for the interiors of the apartments and amenities. Well-known Hollander Design did the landscape architecture. The building was developed by Tishman Speyer and sales and marketing is being done by Corcoran.
The exterior of the building is very striking. Studio Gang found inspiration in the classic bay windows of traditional Brooklyn brownstones, reinterpreting them as projecting bays sweeping diagonally up and down the tower’s facades. The bays, which appear to peel away from the building’s concrete exterior, make the façade seem almost changeable, as sunlight and shadow move during the day.
When designing the interiors, Michaelis Boyd took inspiration from Brooklyn’s industrial past, with rich, tactile materials designed to age and patinate with time, from rustic woods to blackened metals and bronze hardware. The model residences are offered in two finishes: “Heritage” units feature warm tones, stained woods and dark metalwork, while “Classic” combines lighter neutrals with stainless-steel fittings and pale oak.
Unit 40A, the first model flat pictured, is 1,956 square feet, with four bedrooms, three bathrooms, and northwestern exposure. With a $3.7 million ask, it’s also the most expensive of the three model condos. This is in the Classic finish.
Also in the Classic finish, and priced at $2.085 million is unit 40B, with 1,320 square feet, two bedrooms and two bathrooms, and northeast exposure. Priced at $2.67 million, unit 40G spans 1,417 square feet, with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and southwest exposure.
Thinking, “Those all look kinda of small for those prices”? Well, with the laundry list of lavish amenities available in the building, there’s no need to feel cooped up here.
There’s coffee service in the lobby in the morning, a co-working space and in addition to the dog park, a pet spa for giving the pooches a bath. The fully-equipped gym includes weight and cardio rooms, yoga rooms, and a squash court, while a 75-foot indoor saltwater swimming pool allow for year-round lap swimming. There’s a comfy lounge that opens to a terrace with a BBQ grill, a private dining room, a catering kitchen, a games room, a kids’ playroom. Take a breath because that’s not all, folks. There’s a sundeck with hot tub, a fitness deck for al fresco exercise, a sky lounge with fireplace, a billiards room and a library, a screening room, a virtual gaming room, a music studio, a card room for poker night, and last but not least, a cocktail lounge.
