The Manistee Business and Professional Women's Club recently donated six wooden park benches to the city for use at First Street Beach. This is the first step in the local club's project to help improve the facilities at the beach, cooperating with the Manistee Jaycees. One of the many positive things about the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life is the large number of people who donate their time to provide entertainment for the walkers. The Relay For Life will take place today and Saturday at Manistee Catholic Central’s football field. The 24-hour event is expected to raise $60,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Even being in the Arcadia Lions’ calaboose didn’t seem to deter the spirits of these festival goers Saturday as they enjoyed Arcadia Daze. Activities Saturday afternoon centered around the parade with some viewers being taken into the “calaboose” and given a different perspective of the parade route. Other activities included street dances both Friday and Saturday nights, good food, a foot race, arts and crafts show and horseshoe pitching.

Tentative plans for an upcoming building program of the Manistee Public School system will be reviewed at a special public meeting to be held at 7:30 p.m. on July 30 in the high school auditorium. Interested people were urged to attend the session and participate in the discussion of the plans as prepared by the J. & G. Daverman architectural firm which has been retained by the local school board to assist in meeting district building needs.

An estimated 30 Springdale Township residents attended the meeting last night at the Springdale Hall to discuss the possible repair or replacement of the presently collapsed bridge on the Pstuka Road crossing the Benzie River. The residents seemed to desire a tubular arch bridge, consisting of a huge corrugated metal pipe, with an estimated 10 feet of dirt over it.
