NORTHBROOK, IL — An automated license plate reader system received a notification of stolen license plates Wednesday, which led to the subsequent arrest of a Chicago woman, according to Northbrook police. Mindy Bravo, 29, is accused of possession and use of stolen license plates, unlawful possession of a credit card, two counts of possession of a fraudulent driver's license, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and was arrested following a traffic stop.

Police said Bravo was in possession of a large amount of stolen mail. The recovered mail has been turned over to the United States Postal Inspector for investigation.

According to Jenna Reinhardt, assistant state's attorney at the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, the ALPR system detected and tagged the stolen license plates on Dundee Road. The vehicle was then located in the 700 block of Crestbury Court. Police made contact with Bravo and verified the license plates were stolen. Police also found two driver's licenses with Bravo's photo and the names of other residents.

"We are very pleased with the initial success of this technology, as it has allowed us to recover vehicles and apprehend several offenders," Northbrook Police Chief Christopher Kennedy said. "We look forward to the planned expansion of this system as it assists officers in ensuring the safety of Northbrook."

In addition, according to CCSAO, police found a stolen bank card from someone who had told police recently their mail had been stolen, along with various other mail.

Bags of cocaine and methamphetamine were also discovered in the car. Detectives made contact with the dealership that reported the license plates as stolen. Bravo admitted to owning the vehicle to which the license plates were affixed, according to CCSAO.

At the time of her arrest, Bravo was out on bail for a pending case in Chicago where she is accused of burglary, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, two counts of possession of stolen credit cards, possession of burglary tools and possession of fraudulent driver's licenses, according to CCSAO. She also has a pending case of intent to sell amphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia out of Kenosha County, Wisconsin.

Bravo, who was being held in jail with no bond for violation of bail bond from the previous cases, was in court Friday. Bond for the new case in Northbrook was set at $25,000. She is due back in court April 21.
